Carla's World - Just a writer at the sea...
I am a published writer and awarded poet who has a passion for words and a knack with the camera. I was bathed in the fine arts at an early age, beginning with an early introduction to ballet that led to a 22-year relationship. Born in Chicago to classically trained musician parents, I don't remember a time when the arts were not an integral part of my life. My mother was a professional violinist and a music professor who once played with legendary artists like: Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Wayne Newton, and Rod Stewart. My father is a gifted composer and symphony conductor, and one of the most talented men I've ever known. My creative writing surfaced early on, when at 16 years of age I wrote a children's play that was performed in Fresno, California by a community backyard children's theatre group.
I am a regular feature writer for Ventura County Reporter, and actively work as a freelance writer in various genres, to include copywriting, editing, writing business profiles, writing magazine articles for both magazine print and web-based publications, writing news journalism (features), web content, screenplay writing and ghostwriting. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, and a Bachelor of Arts in English. In addition, I am an instructor at Santa Barbara City College Continuing Education, and I hold screenwriting workshops at the Montecito Library.
My interest in photography goes back to my youth and my love of nature. Whether I was skiing down a snow-covered mountain, or basking in the sun at the beach, my camera was always in hand. If I am not creating pictures with words, I enjoy observing and capturing impressionable life moments. I am the mother of two wonderful grown children, and currently reside in beautiful Santa Barbara California.
